The New Twitter Search, Look & Feel

One way that Twitter has already delivered on its promise to improve the search experience other than for archive searching has been through cool features that are part of the new Twitter look-and-feel that has been rolling out since mid-September.

The changes have been seen as a real hit. Twitter offers search in two ways, at the dedicated Twitter Search site and through a search box at Twitter.com. The new features make it much easier to get further context about the tweets you find in response to a search.

Let’s Do The Numbers!

The post also revealed some updated figures:

There are over 1,000 tweets per second
There are 12,000 queries per second
There are over 1 billion queries per day (1,036,800,000 per day)

Using Social Media to promote your business website

Social Media tools are a positive way of networking and interacting with other Internet users. Myspace and Facebook have a global attraction allowing friends and people with common interests to communicate over the internet. It is often perceived that Social Media are primarily for, well, social and leisure purposes. This is no longer the case, as businesses are finding it a great way to market themselves.

We know that the web can technically survive without it, since it did a good job of surviving before social media became so popular.

So why use Social Media?

Social media tools like Facebook, LinkedIn, blogs and Twitter are excellent tools for getting your message to a large global audience or more importantly a niche group of users or business contacts interested in your product or service areas. Search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing) place more emphasis on new up-to-date content. A Blog on your site or externally is a good way to promote yourself to current and prospective clients, and the search engines. LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter give you the power to push to content, product updates and offers to your clients quickly and effectively.

LinkedIn provides useful tools for collaboration, users have the ability to create their own networks, working groups, workspaces and much more. Smithers RAPRA have done a great job putting iPolyCond on LinkedIn. The working group has attracted new members and set up new discussions stimulating user interaction. It's about 'Increasing the knowledge base of the European polymer industry on new conductive polymers'. http://bit.ly/dxc02O

The next stage is to feed news from your project onto LinkedIn and Twitter. Hence the 'Social Media' not only create interest in your project but they help to raise the search engine profile of your Internet site.

If you want your Internet presence and website to thrive, flourish, make advances, and surpass others, then social media could be a vital part of your online marketing plan.

Brighten up your website for the summer

With the lovely summer weather knocking at our doors, it is time to shed your winter clothes and update your look for summer. A new design for your website can quickly and easily change the way people look at you. Some major global sites have followed in this vein and updated their look. Wikipedia recently changed their site giving a much cleaner smoother style, while Google has reworked their home page and listings adding a left hand panel.

Why change?

The web, like clothes, cars and many more industries is constantly evolving using different styles, colours, sizes and technologies. It is important that you stay ahead of the game and keep your site fresh and appealing for your current and your prospective customers. Sites that have not been updated for years look tired and redundant. Old information will give the impression that your business is stagnant or worse, has finished!

What to change?

Design; A brand new design will revitalise your site and get you back in the minds of the people who count, your clients! Content; Refocusing your sites content will not only help engage your users but also aid with your Search Engine Strategy. Technology; Utilising new Web 2.0 technologies will quickly portray an up-to-date and constantly evolving organisation. Social Media; Integrate social media with your site. Blogs, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn are powerful social media tools that help you to build a business network and deliver your message to a global audience.

This summer The Log Cabin Store refreshed their website for the summer. A full e commerce system selling log cabins online around the UK.
